Dear Year 6 Parents,
At St Matthew’s School, we are committed to providing a safe and productive environment. Our goal is for all of our students to make continuing progress and to achieve their full potential. We can achieve these critical goals only if our school is orderly and our classrooms are calm.
Whilst the Behaviour Policy remains unchanged, we have raised our expectations in regard to student conduct and behaviour in Year 6. This is to ensure that all students can learn in an environment that is free from disruption. We are particularly focusing on one statement from our Student Code of Conduct:
- I treat others the way I would like to be treated, just as Jesus showed concern for others.
Today, the Year 6 students were informed that there will be zero tolerance for students who fail to adhere to the following school rule:
- Speak nicely to others; no verbal bullying
The consequences for failing to follow this rule are:
In-School Suspension
In-school suspensions are conducted during class times. This will be held in the admin office. The students will sit and complete work set by the classroom teachers. There is to be no contact with other students. The Leadership Team will supervise. Recess and lunch breaks will be taken at different times to the rest of the school. The duration of an in-school suspension may range from half a day to three days, depending on the severity of the incident.
End-of-Year Excursion
In conjunction with this, the Year 6 students have been informed if they receive 3 in-school suspensions between now and the last two weeks of Term 4, they will not be able to attend the end-of-year excursion.
We would appreciate it if you would discuss this with your child and contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
We are confident that our Year 6 students will support each other in making choices that demonstrate kindness and respect.
Thanking you,
Mrs Susan Milton
