St Matthew’s School Narrogin

School Vision

St Matthew’s School empowers children to embrace life-long learning, and grow and develop as God intends.

Dear Parents & Caregivers,

It was so heart-warming to see so many dads and father figures attending our Fathers’ Day gatherings this week. A big thank you to all of the staff and P&F mums for making these events possible.

Athletic Carnivals this week

The St Matthew’s School Faction Athletics Carnivals will be held on Tuesday 7 September (at school) and Friday 10 September (at Thomas Hogg Oval on Bannister Street, Narrogin). Each child from Year One to Six has been given a programme, highlighted with the events he/she is in.  It is essential that we are informed if your child is unable to attend either of the carnival days.

Parental assistance on the day is essential for the carnival to run smoothly.  If you would like to help, please contact Linda Kilpatrick (linda.kilpatrick@cewa.edu.au). We will need helpers for both Jumps and Throws on 7 September and the main events on 10 September.

P&F Cake Stall

Our P&F are running a cake stall at the Sports Carnival again this year. Please bring any nut-free donations to Thomas Hogg on the day (Friday 10th Sept) from 8:30am or drop them at the school canteen on Thursday 9th Sept. Any contribution is appreciated.

Carnival Lunches

Our hardworking P&F have organised  carnival lunch orders for Friday’s Athletics Carnival. The order form went home with students on Thursday and is due back by Tuesday 7 September.

St Matthew’s Feast Day Celebrations 24 September

St Matthew’s School will celebrate St Matthew’s Feast Day on Friday 24th September. The day’s events will be:

  • 9:30am Whole School Mass at St Matthew’s Parish
  • 11:15am St Matthew’s Got Talent – an opportunity for our Pre-Primary to Year 6 students to showcase their wonderful gifts and talents. Students may want to dance, sing, play an instrument, tell jokes, perform magic tricks, or show off any other exciting talent they have. Each class will hold their own auditions, and the best two performances from each class will go through to the grand final performance on Friday 24th of September. More information regarding this will come out through the school app soon.
  •  2:20pm School Band performance – the Band has been working hard all year to create an exciting repertoire of songs and they would love to present them as part of our school celebrations for St Matthew’s Day. The concert will begin at 2:20pm in the Sr Isabel Hall.

All parents and community members are very welcome to join us for any or all of these events.

Students will also be able to wear their Sports Colours on this day for a gold coin donation. The money raised will go to Wheelchairs For Kids:

Kindy Enrolments

Principal Focus – Happy Fathers’ Day

Fathers’ Day is obviously the perfect time to spoil our dads. I also think it is a perfect time to reflect on the role of being a dad and to stop and think about what an important job this is. Maggie Dent has put together the following clip to celebrate dads and father figures. She offers her top tips for dads, in particular for men who might’ve had very tough dads whose style they don’t want to imitate. She offers some practical, simple ways to really connect as a dad with our kids… little things that connect dads/father figures with their kids, and help them to become the dad they want to be.

Maggie Dent’s “Message For Dads”

As Fathers’ Day draws to a close for another year, it seems like a good excuse to share some truly terrible dad jokes – enjoy!

What do sprinters eat before a race?

Nothing – they fast!

Did you hear the rumour about butter – well, I’m not going to spread it!

Why did the old man fall into the well?

Because he couldn’t see that well!

Keep smiling,

Susan Milton
