St Matthew’s School empowers children to embrace life-long learning, and grow and develop as God intends.

This prayer is chosen to acknowledge the First Holy Communicants who will take part in this sacrament this Sunday, 15 June:

Lord Jesus,
Bless the children who will come forward to receive Holy Communion for the first time.
May this day be an initial step into a life-long love of the Eucharist.
Give them a hunger for this sacred food so that they turn to you for comfort, guidance, and wisdom as they grow into full discipleship.
Thank you for their innocence and goodness.
May their hands, extended in anticipation of your Body and Blood, inspire all of us to cherish this sacred sacrament.

2025 First Holy Communion

This Sunday, 15 June, 11 children will gather at St Matthew’s Parish for their First Holy Communion. This is a very special day when they will receive Jesus in the most special way for the first time. They have been preparing for this day with the help of their parents, Father Joe and their teachers. May they take the friendship of Jesus with them wherever they go in their lives.

First Holy Communion Retreat Day

As part of the Religious Education Curriculum, all students in Year 4 will participate in a First Holy Communion Student Retreat Day on Friday 13 June, held at the St Matthew’s Parish Centre. The day will be facilitated by Miss Monty and Ms Bailey. Our Year 4’s are welcome to wear free dress on this day.

Term 3 Cultural Celebrations

Winter Carnival Years 4 – 6

On 26 June, all students in Years 4 – 6 will participate in the 2025 Winter Carnival, together with other local schools. Each child will be playing one of four sports: hockey, soccer, football or netball. The event will be held at the sporting facilities on Clayton Road, Narrogin. Please contact Linda Kilpatrick (linda.kilpatrick@cewa.edu.au) if you are available to coach a team, or lend a hand.

Interim Reports

Semester One reports will be available to parents from 1 July. These reports will be available online through the Seqta Engage Website. It is very important that parents have a password to access this site. New families will be sent a “Welcome” email. All other families are asked to contact Lyndee Montgomery (lyndee.montgomery@cewa.edu.au) should they require a new password, or have any difficulties logging into this site.

Skorts

Acting on feedback from staff, students & parents in last year’s surveys, we will be allowing girls to wear skorts as part of their sport and formal uniform next semester. This means, girls will be able to wear the skorts 5 days a week. Naturally, girls will still be able to continue to wear the other sports uniform items.

P&F Quiz Night

No Monday Lunch Orders Semester 2

Starting Term 3, we will no longer be able to offer lunch orders on Mondays.This is unfortunately due to us not having any parent volunteers available to help with the delivery of lunch orders. Staff members are currently giving up a portion of their lunch break to collect these from Narrogin Primary and we are concerned that should these staff members be absent, or needed elsewhere, this could easily be forgotten. For this reason, it has been decided that lunch orders will only be offered on Thursdays and Fridays next semester.

Socktober

To raise funds for Catholic Mission Australia, students will engage in a number of Socktober events this year. The first for these events will take place on Tuesday the 1st of July. Year Six students will be working with our Catholic Missions leader, Shendelle Mullane to create sockballs. To prepare for this event, we are collecting the following items:

· plastic bags (bread bags work well and other clean plastics that are used with food items, bubble wrap)
· old clothing (that won’t be returned, including a few socks)
· bits of baling twine (or string or wool) to make the sockballs

If you have any of these unwanted items at home, please drop them in to the school office before the 1st of July.

Book Fair

St Matthew’s Book Fair will run from Monday 9 June to Wednesday 11 June. This is our main Library Fundraiser for the year and we would appreciate your support.
