P&F Quiz Night Thank You

Thank you to the P&F Committee for your incredible effort in hosting, planning, and organising the Music Quiz Night on Friday night. Your dedication, creativity, and attention to detail made the evening a fantastic success, bringing our school community together for a night of fun, laughter, and friendly competition. Events like these not only raise valuable funds but also strengthen the bonds between families, staff, and students. We are truly grateful for your hard work and commitment to making St Matthew’s such a vibrant and connected community.

 

Book Fair Thank you

I am pleased to report that the recent Book Fair raised a total of $4,584.90. This would not have been possible without the time and effort contributed by Mrs Ong and her team of volunteers.

Arts Narrogin – The Lost Little LLama and Little Red Riding Hood

On Friday 27 August, Arts Narrogin is presenting the Awesome Arts double bill of The Lost Little Llama and Little Red Riding Hood , on 27 June 2025 at the Narrogin Districts Senior Citizens centre. All of our students will be attending this performance at 11am.  The Production is actually two separate plays, that are back to back, with a small break in between, which is when a small workshop will be conducted. This is under Awesome Arts banner and is supported by WA Ballet and Circuitwest for this tour.

 

Winter Carnival Years 4 – 6

On 26 June, all students in Years 4 – 6 will participate in the 2025 Winter Carnival, together with other local schools. Each child will be playing one of four sports: hockey, soccer, football or netball. The event will be held at the sporting facilities on Clayton Road, Narrogin. Please contact Linda Kilpatrick (linda.kilpatrick@cewa.edu.au) if you are available to coach a team, or lend a hand.

 

Socktober

To raise funds for Catholic Mission Australia, students will engage in a number of Socktober events this year. The first for these events will take place on Tuesday the 1st of July. Year Six students will be working with our Catholic Missions leader, Shendelle Mullane to create sockballs. To prepare for this event, we are collecting the following items:

· plastic bags (bread bags work well and other clean plastics that are used with food items, bubble wrap)
· old clothing (that won’t be returned, including a few socks)
· bits of baling twine (or string or wool) to make the sockballs

If you have any of these unwanted items at home, please drop them in to the school office before the 1st of July.

 

Australian Maths Competition 7 August

The Australian Mathematics Trust (AMT) has invited St Matthew’s School to participate in the 2025 Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC), to be held on Thursday, 7th of August. The entry fee is $9.00 per student.

Entry into this competition is optional, but St Matthew’s School encourages as many children as possible, from Years 3 to 6 inclusive, to take part. If you would like your child to be entered, please print and complete the emailed slip or pop into the Office to collect a form. These need to be returned to school, in an envelope, no later than Tuesday 1 July to the front office, with the entry fee of $9.00 – cash only please. Please mark envelopes “AMC”.

 

Semester One Reports

Semester One reports will be available to parents from 1 July. These reports will be available online through the Seqta Engage Website (https://matthews.engage.cewa.edu.au/). It is very important that parents have a password to access this site. New families will be sent a “Welcome” email. All other families are asked to contact Lyndee Montgomery (lyndee.montgomery@cewa.edu.au) should they require a new password, or have any difficulties logging into this site.

One Big Voice 29 August Term 3

Our beautiful choir will be performing at the One Big Voice Concert next term. It will be held at the RAC Arena on the 29th August. Unlike previous years, however, we will only be attending the 12pm Matinee performance. Please see the school app for more information.

 

Filming and photographing School Activities

It has been wonderful to see so many parents joining us for assemblies this term. I would, however, kindly remind all parents and caregivers not to upload images or videos of students (other than their own child) to social media platforms. This includes photos taken at school events, excursions, or in the classroom. Sharing such content without consent may breach privacy and child safety guidelines.

We appreciate your support in helping us maintain a respectful and secure environment for all members of our school community.

 

Skorts

Acting on feedback from staff, students & parents in last year’s surveys, we will be allowing girls to wear skorts as part of their sport and formal uniform next semester. This means, girls will be able to wear the skorts 5 days a week. Naturally, girls will still be able to continue to wear the other sports uniform items.

 

Formal Shoes – Mondays & Wednesdays

As we head towards holidays, I wanted to remind families to ensure that any school shoes purchased over the school holidays, abide by our uniform code:

Grl’s Formal Footwear:
• Black leather “dress” school shoes, black leather sports shoes (no logos or mesh) OR plain style ‘Mary Jane’ black shoes (ie: no embellishments such as studs or ribbons)
Boy’s Footwear:
• Black leather “dress” school shoes (not boots) or black leather sports shoes (no logos or mesh)

 

It’s Cold!!

Parents are asked to please ensure their children come to school wearing the correct jumper/jacket:

Monday & Wednesday – formal jumper
Tuesday, Thursday & Friday – sports jacket

Please note, students are not allowed to wear long-sleeved tops under their blue shirts or dresses.

 

The 2025 Religious Education Assessment (REA)

In Catholic schools across Western Australia, students enrolled in Years 3, 5 and 9 participate in a system-wide, online assessment in Religious Education. The administration of the assessment in 2025 commences Monday 4th August. The purpose of the REA is to measure student learning of the mandated content in the Religious Education Curriculum. Test items relevant to each participating year level are developed by the Religious Education Directorate at the Catholic Education Office of Western Australia. The test items consist of multiple-choice, short and extended response. The students’ faith is not assessed.
More information will be made available to parents next week via the app.

 

Monday Lunch Orders Semester 2

Please be informed that due to the generosity of the Narrogin Primary P&C, St Matthew’s students will be able to continue to order lunches on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.
