Welcome to Week 7!

Australian Maths Competition – Tuesday 4 August

The Australian Mathematics Trust (AMT) has invited our Year 3 to 6 students to participate in the 2026 Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC), to be held on Tuesday, 4 August. The entry fee is $9.00 per student.
First run in 1978, the Australian Mathematics Competition is Australia’s longest running, largest and most well-known maths competition for school students. The AMC contains unique problems designed each year by leading educators and academics to challenge and extend your students’ problem-solving skills.
Entry into this competition is optional, but St Matthew’s School encourages as many children as possible, from Years 3 to 6 inclusive, to take part. If you would like your child to be entered, please print and complete the slip or pop into the Office to collect a form. These need to be returned to school no later than Friday 5 June to the front office, with the entry fee of $9.00. This can be paid in cash or via eftpos.

Love the Life!

Have you seen our beautiful school and students featured in the new Shire of Narrogin – Love the Life promotional video? This was filmed last year. Winter Carnival Years 4 – 6

On 2 July, all students in Years 4 – 6 will participate in the 2026 Winter Carnival, together with other local schools. Each child will be playing one of four sports: hockey, soccer, football or netball. The event will be held at the sporting facilities on Clayton Road, Narrogin. Please contact Amber Moulton (amber.moulton@cewa.edu.au) if you are available to coach a team, or lend a hand.

Interim Reports

Interim reports will be available to parents from 30 June. These reports will be available online through the Seqta Engage Website (https://matthews.engage.cewa.edu.au/). It is very important that parents have a password to access this site. New families will be sent a “Welcome” email. All other families are asked to contact Lyndee Montgomery (lyndee.montgomery@cewa.edu.au) should they require a new password, or have any difficulties logging into this site.

It’s Cold!

As we begin our winter months, please ensure your child comes to school dressed appropriately in the correct uniform:

Monday & Wednesday: Formal jumper
Tuesday, Thursday & Friday: Sports jacket

Please note that students are asked not wear long-sleeved tops under their blue shirts or dresses. Singlets or thermal vests are acceptable; however, these must not be visible beneath the uniform. Thank you for your support in helping all students maintain a neat and consistent appearance.

School Dental Clinic

The school dental clinic is now restaffed to a 4 day per week capacity. Since 2023 they have been unable to secure permanent full time staff and so have been working at a severely reduced capacity having been closed majority of the 3 year period.

From June 1st the clinic will be restaffed open 8am – 4pm on Mondays, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays. Currently closed on Wednesdays.

Should any students (from any of our schools) have any urgent issue such as a tooth ache or major concern, parents can call on 0428 984 100 and book an appointment for them at the Narrogin Primary School dental clinic.

The clinic will be working through their waiting list for Narrogin students first and then proceed with the school dental van run after that.

Enrolment forms have been continuing to be issued each year so no immediate action is needed by any parents or students. Parents do not need to call us to book in for a check up, and will need to wait to be contacted. However, if a parent wishes to check their child is on our system, or update any postal addresses, they can call or email the dental clinic during business hours.

2027 Three-Week Mid-Year Break

Catholic Education Western Australia Limited (CEWA) will be moving toward the implementation of a three-week mid-year term break for its 150 schools for the 2027 school year. The three-week mid-year term break is part of CEWA’s ongoing commitment to the wellbeing of staff and students.

Term 1: 28 January – 9 April 2027
Term 2: 26 April – 25 June 2027 (pending ANZAC Day observance)
Term 3: 19 July – 24 September 2027
Term 4: 11 October – 10 December 2027

Kindy Enrolments – 2027

Enrolments for Kindergarten 2027 are being accepted. Due to a large number of enquiries, families wishing to be included on the list for a Kindy Enrolment Interview must ensure that a completed enrolment pack is received by Friday, 14 August.

Enrolment interviews provide families with the opportunity to learn more about our Kindy curriculum and school procedures, and, most importantly, allow us to warmly welcome new families into the St Matthew’s community.

Applications for enrolment are considered in the following order:

1. Catholic students from St Matthew’s Parish
2. Catholic students from other parishes
3. Siblings of non‑Catholic students already enrolled
4. Non‑Catholic students from other Christian denominations
5. Other non‑Catholic students

Parents who choose to apply for enrolment at St Matthew’s School accept that they will abide by the policies and practices of Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA) and the School Leadership Team while their child is enrolled. Families are encouraged to speak with the Principal if they have any questions regarding school policies or practices.

If you know of families who may be ready to send their little ones to Kindy, please encourage them to visit the School Office to collect an enrolment pack.

My Long Service Leave

I will be taking leave from 22 June (Mon Week 10) until the end of this term. Whilst I am away, Miss Lyndee Montgomery will be Acting Principal. Due to my absence, the last newsletter for this term will be 16 June (Tuesday Week 9).
