St Matthew’s School Narrogin

School Vision

St Matthew’s School empowers children to embrace life-long learning and grow and develop as God intends.

Prayer

Ever generous God,
You inspired Saint Mary MacKillop
To live her life faithful to the Gospel of Jesus Christ
And constant in bringing hope and encouragement
To those who were disheartened, lonely or needy.
With confidence in your generous providence
And joining with Saint Mary MacKillop
We ask that our faith and hope be fired afresh by
the Holy Spirit
So that we too, like Mary MacKillop, may live with
Courage, trust and openness.
Ever generous God hear our prayer.
We ask this through Jesus Christ

Amen

Dear Parents and Carers

We are so fortunate at St Matthew’s to have many interesting incursions, excursions and extra-curricula activities planned by our wonderful teachers to enhance the learning of our amazing students. So far this term the Year 5 class have visited the Local Government Offices; Pre-Primaries have planted trees for National Tree Day; children took part in the Australian Maths Competition; Years 3 to 6 had a golf clinic and to finish off, children are being visited by Science Alive today. It is wonderful to see the excitement and learning that these activities can generate. I would like to take the opportunity to thank our hard-working staff for their dedication to make events such as these possible.

Semester Two Reports

By now, I am sure that all parents have accessed their child’s first semester reports using the SEQTA website. It is important to remember that these reports are only available online whilst children are enrolled at St Matthew’s. Once children leave our school, including when our Year 6’s graduate, the reports can no longer be printed, either by the parents or by the school.

Mary MacKillop Prayer Service

On Thursday 8 August, Year 1 and 2 are hosting the whole school St Mary MacKillop Prayer Service. Mary MacKillop is Australia’s first Saint. She was born in Melbourne in 1842 and is remembered for her dedication to providing education for disadvantaged women and children.  We would love to invite all our parents to join their children for this special service at 11:05am in the Sr Isabel Hall.

First Holy Communion Parent Workshop

This year, we have 9 students preparing for their First Holy Communion on 15 September. In preparation for this Sacrament, all candidates and their parents are attending a Commitment Mass at 9:30am on 10 August.  This is to be followed by a parent and child workshop in the Parish Centre at 11:00am. This is an opportunity for all our candidates to share and continue their learning with their parents. I would like to thank Mr Tenney and Mr Collins for organising this important event. I would also like to remind our school community to continue to pray for our candidates at this very special time.

Marbellous Walking’

At St Matthew’s we are always trying to think of new ways to reward our students for all of the good choices that they make. This semester, we are focusing on the way that we move around our school. All classes have been given a jar and a bag of marbles. Each time a staff member sees a class walking slowly, sensibly and safely  around the school, they can reward that class with a marble for their jar. Once a class’ jar is full, the children get to enjoy 10 minutes of extra play as a reward. This marbellous initiative should help all of us to remember to keep left, leave doorways clear and to walk quietly in our lines.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Susan Milton
Assistant Principal
