School Vision

St Matthew’s School empowers children to embrace life-long learning and grow and develop as God intends.

Dear Parents and Carers

Friday October 25 is World Teacher’s Day. On this day we acknowledge the professionalism, dedication and expertise of those responsible for educating our students at St Matthew’s School.

As many parents know instinctively, the impact individual teachers have on a child’s education can be great. Teachers are central to learning and, while there are other important factors, including the quality of the curriculum, school environment and student ability and commitment, it is teachers that breathe life into what is being taught and who engage and motivate students. As a Catholic school we recognise that parents are their children’s first teachers. During the course of primary school it is often individual teachers that enliven education and cause students to identify what is most exciting and rewarding.

Each one of us, if asked, could most likely name one or two special teachers that made what was being studied engaging, lively and relevant and who sparked an interest and passion for learning that was life changing. Teaching is a vocation, a calling from God, not just a ‘job’.  I encourage you to take the time to personally thank your child’s teacher on World Teachers Day. A big thank you to the P & F for providing morning tea for the wonderful staff at St Matthew’s on this special day.

Athletics Carnival

The Athletics Carnival held on Thursday was a huge success thanks to the efforts of Mrs Kilpatrick our Physical Education Specialist, staff, parents and students. The weather was amazing and our students showed good sportsmanship throughout the day. Congratulations to all students on their behaviour and support for each other. With records broken and a close finish, it was an exciting day for all.

Many thanks to our wonderful P & F for organizing morning tea and to all parents who contributed cakes and treats for the stall.

Children enjoyed the exciting and fun space prepared by the Kindergarten Staff at the Children’s Week Expo in Narrogin on Thursday. A big thank you to Mrs Graham and Mrs Blyth for preparing the stall and for welcoming children to engage in play.

A reminder that next Tuesday 29 October students are invited to wear crazy socks with their sports uniform and to bring a gold coin donation to raise funds for our Catholic missions.

A number of our Year 3 students will participate in a Commitment Mass for the Sacrament of Reconciliation this Sunday. Please keep these students in your prayers.
