Pre-Primary Assembly – The Year That Was

The Pre-Primary children looked back at the adventures of 2020 during their assembly. They were very excited to start Pre-primary and learn new things. They had a tongue-in-the-cheek look at how Coronavirus spread, especially when someone hops on a plane and takes it overseas. This was a parody based on the song “Do Ri Me”. The children shared everything they have learnt about fire and farm safety. Then they shared with everyone their very busy Term 3. They learnt where their food and clothescome from and the machinery used to produce it. They were very excited about their first athletics carnival, especially the bus ride. The children invited the whole school to sing “Zippity Do Dah” with them. This was a reminder about the musical “Alice in Wonderland Jnr”. Finally, they are looking forward to swimming lessons and dressing up to deliver the Pixie Post. That was 2020 in a nutshell.

Year 5 Assembly – Bringing Pope Francis’s Letter To Life

The Year 5 assembly was based on Pope Francis’s letter to everyone in the world called ‘Laudato Si’.

Laudato Si’ is a call to action to make changes to how people live, to consider caring for the planet, ‘our common home’, and the quality of life for all people.

Laudato Si’ discusses the damage being done to the Earth by the actions of people, and calls on ‘every person living on this planet’, to make urgent changes to their lifestyles and how they consume energy in order to protect the planet. It deals with many environmental issues including pollution; climate change; water; loss of biodiversity and decline in the quality of human life. In his letter, Pope Francis implores people to work together to create a better world for future generations and asks everyone to make the necessary changes in their lives in order to take care of, respect and value ‘our common home’.

The letter also gives people hope. It echoes a song of joy and wonder for the gift of creation and speaks of God’s boundless affection for all people, especially for people living in poverty.

NAIDOC Week 2020

Last week, we acknowledged NAIDOC Week by specifically learning about how Aboriginal peoples have been connected to the land and plants for food, health and healing for thousands of generations. The children will continue to focus on these themes during the Arts Afternoon time slot on Wednesday afternoons for the remainder of this term.
