St Matthew’s School Narrogin

Success for Cross Country Competitors

On Friday 28 May, St Matthew’s School took part in the annual Cross Country long distance race. This event is getting bigger each year with eleven schools taking part from all over the Wheat Belt, with schools from Newdegate to Katanning and everywhere in between. The event took place at Thomas Hogg Oval in Narrogin, in perfect, mild weather conditions. St Matthew’s School came fifth out of the eleven schools.

The students had to navigate a course of around 2 kilometres, which wound through bush tracks and finished on the oval. Each age race had around 30 participants, which made for hard-fought races. The best results for the St Matt’s competitors were Matthew George, who took out first place in the Year 4 boys’ race. Kate Shepherd was awarded a fourth-place medal for the Year 5 girls. The students all gave a strong effort and can be well-pleased with their efforts.
