Netball WA, West Coast Fever, Primary School Cup

On Friday, 8 August , St Matthew’s competed in the Netball WA, West Coast Fever, Primary School Cup at the Narrogin Leisure Centre. St Matthew’s took 3 teams, mostly made up of the Year 6 class. I am proud to announce that all 3 teams made it to the finals, with the Mixed Team and the Boys Team winning. Congratulations!

Australian Maths Competition

Congratulations to the students from Years 3 to 6 who competed in the 2025 Australian Maths Competition on Thursday, 7 August. The AMC contains unique problems designed each year by leading educators and academics to challenge and extend students’ problem-solving skills. Certificates will be presented at an assembly next term.

Lockdown Drill

On Tuesday, 12 August, we practised our Lockdown procedures. Lockdown is to be used in active threat situations involving perpetrators on school grounds. Although we all pray that we will never have to use this procedure, for the safety of our staff and students, it is very important that we practise our responses.

Science never tasted so… tempting!

Year 3 was lucky to score some bonus science time with Mr R, who ran a chocolatey experiment. Armed with thermometers, students tested how chocolate reacted to different environments; in the sun, in the shade, and in the classroom.

Mr R reminded us: “We never eat the science… but sometimes the science eats us!” The students loved seeing (and smelling!) science in action.

Huge thanks to Mr R for creating a tempting lesson on heat and temperature!

Year 3 Cultural Celebrations

We were very lucky to have Danielle visit our class to teach the students the Haka – both the male and female versions – as well as a beautiful poi dance. The students loved learning the movements and the meaning behind them.

We were also spoiled by Nanni Wiki, who brought in some delicious fry bread for everyone to try – it was a big hit!

A huge thank you to both Danielle and Nanni Wiki for making the day such a special and memorable experience for our students.

The Art Award for Week 4 went to Eli (Yr 4) for her Alice in Wonderland-inspired drawing. Congratulations, Eli.
